London-based artist Lava La Rue returns with a striking new single, "Prince of Bologna," released as part of Speedy Wunderground’s celebrated singles series. The track marks Lava La Rue's first release on the label, following the earlier 2026 EP "Do You Know Everything (D.Y.K.E)", issued through BMG. This new era showcases Lava's ongoing evolution, seamlessly integrating band-backed arrangements with intimate solo artistry.

Clocking in at just over two minutes, "Prince of Bologna" is an energetic exploration of indie and electronic influences. The song layers driving guitars with the warmth of a vintage organ and digitally treated drums, forging a distinctive soundscape that reflects Lava La Rue’s playful experimentalism. The single was crafted in collaboration with Tommaso Medica of Husky Loops, who co-wrote and co-produced the track alongside Lava La Rue. The creative process began late one evening in Medica's Tulse Hill apartment, anchored by the unique character of a well-worn Italian organ from the 1970s with a built-in drum machine.

Lyrically, "Prince of Bologna" is inspired by snippets of conversations overheard in diverse social environments. Lava La Rue describes the song as a lyrical speed-dating round with the voices and opinions picked up while hanging out in the smoke area at the George Tavern—transforming these fragments into a kind of love letter to the fleeting insights gleaned from passing interactions.

The recording process reflects the project’s collaborative and live-oriented ethos. After initial songwriting, the final version of the song was captured in a single session at Dan Carey's studio, recorded live straight to tape with Lava La Rue’s band. Carey, founder of Speedy Wunderground, first encountered Lava La Rue performing at Latitude Festival in 2021 and remarked on the immediate impression Lava made: the desire to collaborate and bring Lava’s energy into the label’s orbit, realized five years later with this highly anticipated release.

Accompanying the single is a visually arresting music video, both directed and edited by Lava La Rue. Set in Brighton, the video follows a high-paced parkour chase across the city’s streets and rooftops, capturing the restless dynamism and playful edge of the track.

Lava La Rue’s artistic journey began at the age of eleven, and the artist has since accumulated over 500 million streams worldwide, according to their record label. Previous projects and performances have garnered acclaim from outlets such as BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music, and live appearances at major festivals including Glastonbury and Coachella have further cemented Lava’s reputation as a standout talent in the contemporary music scene.

The release is further marked by its physical edition: a limited seven-inch vinyl single launching on July 30, 2026. This edition will also feature a dub reinterpretation titled “Prince of Dublogna,” crafted by Dan Carey himself, echoing the collaborative spirit at the heart of the project.

As Lava La Rue continues to challenge conventions and expand their creative palette, "Prince of Bologna" stands as both a testament to the power of collaboration and a bold new chapter in one of London's most inventive artistic voices.
